An tAcadamh Ceoil

We offer traditional music classes on a wide range of instruments, in song and in sean-nós dancing. Most of our tuition is delivered in instrument specific small group settings. Individual lessons are also available on request.  For the optimum learning experience we recommend that our students attend a dedicated instrument class at their level of expertise PLUS one of our mixed instrument performance group classes which will focus on repertoire building and arrangement.

Our main body of classes is open to all ages from 7 years upwards; we also offer a dedicated Trad for Tots programme (for 3-6 years), and a range of adult classes which will be available in morning and evening time slots. At the the Acadamh Ceoil  we recommend that all students start their journey in traditional music on the tin-whistle.

All classes are for 50 minutes duration (one to ones are 30 minutes duration). All classes run for 32 weeks.

All of our classes are streamed according to ability*:

Starter  – for complete beginners (Step grade level)

Foundation – for those with a good basic knowledge of the instrument and repertoire (Grades 1-3)

Progression – for intermediate level players (Grades 4-6)

Advanced – for more experienced players (Grades 7-8)

*students can self select when registering online but final level will be decided in class in week 1 by the tutor.

We will ensure that an individual progression route is devised for each student. Should students wish to pursue grade exams we offer accreditation through the London College of Music (which provides an opportunity to secure additional UCAS points for third level applicants).

Adult Classes

We offer a range of classes at starter and progression levels specifically for adults. Individual classes are also available upon request (morning and afternoon slots) – please contact us for more information.

  • learning to tap in time to a Traditional Irish Music tune
