Renowned singers from across Ireland and Scotland perform a selection of their most loved traditional songs in an intimate environment. Singers and the audience will take part in an exchange of songs written in English, Gaeilge and Scots Gaelic, with performances both accompanied and acapella.

Through the support of the Colmcille fund, we are delighted to incorporate Scots Gaelic into a number of events in this year’s festival, including the Song Exchange, the Scots Gaelic Blaschúrsa and this lunchtime discussion panel. ‘Dàimh is Dúiche’ will explore the strong cultural and linguistic connections between the two islands.

Following successful introductory classes in Scots Gaelic and other Celtic languages at the Pan Celtic Festival in 2014, we are delighted to offer a three part programme for language enthusiasts who would like to learn the fundamentals of this Scottish language.

This programme offers a rare opportunity for participants to learn Scots Gaelic from a native speaker of the language and will be of particular interest to speakers of Ulster Irish, with which it bears some similarities.

Each year at Féile Chaoimhín Uí Dhochartaigh we run intensive Irish courses to help learns progress their language skills with skilled tutors. Beginner, intermediate and advanced learners can register to take part in this two-day workshop under the tuition of Feargal Mag Uiginn (beginner), Niall Comer (intermediate), and Malachy O’Neill (advanced).

Brendan Mulholland is one of Ireland’s best-known traditional Irish flute players. His solo album Jean’s Hill was released in 2012 to much critical acclaim, and he is a regular feature on the Irish and European folk festival circuit.

BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Award 2013 winner Mischa Macpherson delivers a workshop and performance for young harp players and singers in Gaelscoil Neachtain, Dungiven. This workshop for beginners will focus on the ancient Celtic tradition of singing with harp accompaniment.

Mischa will be accompanied by James Mackenzie from Breabach on pipes and whistles, and Innes White on guitar.

Each year we offer musicians and traditional music lovers the rare opportunity to attend a special masterclass with legends of the Irish traditional music scene.

This year we invite you to join the iconic duo that is Arty McGlynn & Nollaig Casey for a lunchtime masterclass in which they will talk about their musical careers, take questions from the floor, and even teach a quick tune.  

The event will be hosted by BBC Radio Ulster’s Lynette Fay. Light refreshments will be provided.
